In 1922 the Nelson-Wiggen Piano Company began business in Chicago, started by Oscar Nelson and Peter Wiggen, who had been two of the J.P. Seeburg Piano Company's most important employees. In fact, at one time Nelson had been president of the company. Its first models were the Dance-O-Grand cabinet orchestrion with organ reeds and percussion, the cabinet Harp-O-Grand piano and the keyboard Pian-O-Grand, all with wood panels (not glass) on the front.
This fine coin-operated Pian-O-Grand includes a mandolin attachment and xylophone, and it plays style A rolls. It has not been restored. Note that the bottom front panel is missing, which is relatively easy to replace, but the piano retains its original pump, motor and other internal components. The style A rolls were the most popular in America in the first three decades of the 20th century. Accordingly, a marvelous range of musical selections is available today. A dozen 10-tune A rolls are included. 63x55x28 inches.
