Series 100. 200 bhp, 322 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, Dynaflow automatic transmission, independent coil-spring front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 122 in.

For its second year, 1954, Buick’s Skylark became its own separate series. It was a sort-of-corporate hot rod that was based on the 122-inch wheelbase Century chassis, but it had the “hot” Roadmaster engine. Yes, Buick called the result a “sports car.” Its bodywork was substantially redesigned, the rear fenders were bobbed and sloped gently down, and large chrome taillight nacelles were added. A wraparound windshield was shared with other 1954 Buicks, but the wheel cut-outs, which were enlarged, elongated, and their inner wells painted a contrast color to the body, were exclusive and unusual.

At $4,355, the Skylark continued the tradition of being the most expensive Buick offering, as it was priced at more than $400 above the priciest Roadmaster. It was also the most exclusive, as only 836 “sports cars” were produced in 1954.

The car offered here was formerly part of the highly regarded East Coast collection of Nicola Bulgari, who was renowned for the loving conservatorship he gave his cars, and about 15 years ago, it underwent a partial restoration while in his care. The current owner has ensured that the car is still well cared for and has maintained its Malibu Blue finish and dark blue vinyl top and installed a correct, new two-tone blue “waffled” leather interior that matched the original, which was removed and saved. The car has been fully sorted mechanically, and the 60,000 miles showing on the odometer are believed original. This Buick would be a perfect candidate for AACA events or tours and meets of the 1953–1954 Skylark Club.

This is a wonderful, well-kept example of the last limited-edition Skylark, an automobile that has become an American legend.
