1987 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato
Documents: French Certificat d’Immatriculation
- Just over 4,000 kilometres from new
- One of only 15 left-hand-drive examples
- Fitted with desirable ZF five-speed gearbox
Chassis 20043 features the classic Zagato ‘double bubble’ roof, over the shortened chassis, and with the striking hand-formed aluminium body designed to reduce weight. Menacing in its appearance, the squared off grille and bonnet power bulge can only hint at the massive torque waiting to be released by the five-speed manual transmission. Recorded test speeds nearing 300 km/h put it in competition with the Ferrari 288 GTO, but the luxurious leather seats and ample luggage space meant that it was far more comfortable than its contemporaries.
Originally delivered new to the Gulf for a Middle Eastern sheikh in Javelin Grey over grey leather, chassis 20043 was involved in an accident during the mid-1990s. It was subsequently returned to Aston Martin Lagonda with instructions to rebuild the vehicle with no expenses spared. This Vantage Zagato was afforded the luxury of incorporating all the model changes included with the later Volante Zagatos. Presented today in the classic colours of Black over Parchment leather, the coupé has been started routinely, with regular maintenance since its acquisition by the consignor in 1997.
Among the rarest of the rare, this V8 Vantage offers the chance to own a piece of that legendary partnership between Aston Martin and Zagato.
