1958 BMW 507 Roadster Series II
- Just two German owners from new; single ownership for over four decades
- Maintained by the same BMW-trained mechanic since new
- A truly remarkable 507, highly original throughout
The current owner first became acquainted with the car and Mrs Bartels in 1983, and he instantly fell in love with the 507, begging her to sell it to him. She never relented and decades passed, yet the current owner never fell out of touch with Mr Bartels or out of love with the car. In 2004, she finally decided to part ways with the 507, and it was purchased by the current owner.
Shortly after the purchase, some minor work was done to freshen the 507 for further use and enjoyment. It was fitted with new carpets, a new soft top and a set of Rudge wheels, and the seats were recovered in their original pattern (yet the door panels remain original). Furthermore, it is important to note that the car still retains its front disc brakes, as installed at Mrs Bartels’ request. Registered after the work was completed in 2005, the owner and his wife used the 507 as intended and attended many BMW V8 club meetings. Appropriately, the 507 never disappeared from Mrs Bartels’ life, and the current owner often drove to her house to visit in ‘her’ 507 until her passing in 2006.
Cared for by two loving enthusiasts for its entire life, this 507 has truly led a blessed life, never falling into periods of neglect, abandonment or misuse like many of its contemporaries. Loved by not only those who have been lucky enough to own it, the car has received the same level of adoration from a singular BMW-trained mechanic its whole life, something that almost no other car in existence today can boast. Never fully restored, it is remarkably original throughout and remains ready for anything that its next owner has in store.
