340 bhp, 3.3-liter twin-plug air-cooled, horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine, PMO intake, rebuilt 915-type gearbox with short gears and LSD, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 89.3"

• Carefully-executed recreation of the 911 R, Porsche’s first purpose-built 911 racer

• Built by Steve Pfeffer and Jim Newton; high-performance 3.3-liter “flat-six”

• Painstaking interior and exterior conversion; fearsome acceleration and performance

Steve Pfeffer, a well-known ex-IMSA and historic Porsche racer, and Jim Newton, proprietor of the respected east coast vintage Porsche shop Auto Associates of Canton, joined forces to recreate the legendary 911 R. Beginning with one of Steve’s 3.3-liter race engines and using as the donor a 1971 European-spec 911 T, which had been serviced by Auto Associates for decades, the project resulted in its builders’ vision of a classic narrow-body factory 911 R racer.

The body conversion included attention to the front and rear grilles, bumpers, and tail lamps. Slight rear fender flares allowed wider alloy wheels. The interior was backdated to incorporate a 1967/1968 dash with 1970 dash vents, rebuilt gauges, 356-style close-weave carpeting, lightweight cloth insert race seats on Recaro rails, a 2001 Porsche radio with hidden door speakers, and a sub-woofer under the right-side footwell. The factory air conditioning was updated with an extra hidden condenser, R134 refrigerant, and space-age headliner insulation.

Fully stripped and repainted Porsche Arctic White, the 911 also features a detailed and painted undercarriage. Chassis tweaks included Bilstein shocks, 21/29 mm torsion bars, and rebuilt SC-style Porsche brakes. The full-race 3.3 short-stroke twin plug, twin distributor unit includes an oil cooler, PMO downdraft carburetion, and a custom 911 R style exhaust, and develops 340 bhp. While running on high-octane pump gas, this lightweight 911 “R/T” delivers brutal acceleration and performance. Acquired by the current owner in early-2010, it has covered only an approximate 100 miles since and combines the unadulterated charm of a classic narrow-body 911 with the fierce performance of a current-model Carrera.
