The sleek, modern looks of the XK120 were perfectly matched by the engineering underneath. A sturdy box-section chassis featured independent torsion-bar front suspension, and the live rear axle rode on long semi-elliptic leaf springs. Brakes were Lockheed hydraulic drum units with a generous 12-inch diameter. However, the heart and soul of the new car was a 3,442 cc DOHC six that originated as a two-liter four-cylinder. Engineer Harry Weslake had experimented with a number of advanced designs, of which a four-cylinder unit with hemispherical combustion chambers and large main bearings was most promising. Lyons then directed him to add two more cylinders.

Stunning in its original Pastel Green Metallic with dark green leather, this XK120 was restored in the early-1990s. Since then, it has been kept in climate-controlled storage and driven barely 300 miles, remaining virtually as fresh as the day of its completion. Today, it presents beautifully in show-quality condition, complete with its proper steel disc-wheels and spats, highlighting the rakish body in its purest form.

Originally sold via Hoffman Motor Company (Park Avenue, New York), the car is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. In 1993, it tied for the Jaguar Club of North America Challenge Cup in national competition, with a perfect 100-point score. Since restoration, it has been maintained within very well-respected private collections in climate-controlled storage. Prior to being purchased by the current owner, an inspection confirmed that this XK120 retains its original matching-numbers engine but not the original gearbox. Uncommon today, as it is a highly authentic example of the car that singlehandedly redefined sports car design following WW II, this XK120 Roadster is nothing short of superb.
