With a history stretching back over 50 years, the Porsche 911 has definitely solidified its place as one of the greatest sports cars the world has ever seen. For seemingly its entire production run, it has been considered the gold standard of sports cars and the benchmark to which all new sports cars are compared.

Of the vaunted 993 generation, produced from 1994 to 1998, one of the most desirable and exciting models was the Turbo S. The 993 Turbo S, introduced as the first-ever model of its kind in 1997, was a big step up from the Turbo in terms of both performance and price. It was priced 50 percent higher than the standard Turbo, and performance was just as mind-boggling, as it was headlined by a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. If the driver was brave enough, the 911 Turbo S would hit 100 mph in 8.9 seconds, a half second faster than the standard Turbo.

All 345 examples of the 993 Turbo S were built by Porsche’s Exclusive Department and included a number of unique features when compared to other 911s of its generation. The car sported yellow brake callipers, a unique rear spoiler, polished five-spoke Turbo S wheels, an Aerokit front spoiler, an air intake in the rear wings, and four exhaust pipes at the rear. Inside, the 911 Turbo S received carbon-fibre trim to contrast the leather interior and to provide the type of luxury that customers had come to know and love from Porsche’s top-shelf models.

This 993 Turbo S example was delivered new just as it is seen today, in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Classic Grey leather interior, and it is just one of twenty-six examples built to RHD specifications. It has remained in the UK its entire life, having first been registered on 5 June 1998 to Mahash Patel, of Edgeware. The car was sold two years later, in November 2000, to Nigel Light, of Sevenoaks, by Porsche Centre Tonbridge, and at this time, it had only 120 miles on its odometer. The car was purchased by its third and current owner on 20 April 2007, showing 54,013 miles.

Since then, the car has been carefully and properly maintained but frequently enjoyed on the open road. The Porsche currently shows just under 71,700 miles from new and presents exceptionally well. It last received a major service in August 2014, which included the installation of a new clutch and new cam covers, which are a notorious weak point on the 993-generation, 3.6-litre engine. The car is accompanied by all service invoices from its purchase by Nigel Light in 2000, as well as its original set of manuals and service booklet, illustrating that all its services are indeed up to date.

As one of the rarest and most powerful models of the vaunted 993 platform, the Turbo S is undoubtedly one of the most exciting air-cooled 911s to drive, thanks to its breath-taking performance. All 911s continue to become more desirable to collectors, and the 993 has led the pack as one of the most desirable generations, as it marks the final iteration of the air-cooled 911. High-horsepower models, such as the Turbo S, rarely become available for sale, and RHD examples are rarer still. This particular example, boasting just three owners from new and a very well-documented history with regular servicing, is surely one of the best, and it remains ready to wow its next owner with its incredible driving dynamics.
