  • An uncommon British post-war convertible
  • Fully restored in its original colors
  • A reliable and attractive crowd favorite

It took many years for Britain, which was devastated by World War II, to produce anything other than the most utilitarian transportation. The Morris Minor 1000 was arguably the most important British car of this early post-war period as it was both ahead of its time from a chassis design perspective and yet able to be produced in great numbers to help get Britain moving again. It was attractive and yet offered at an inexpensive price. It proved popular, with more than 140,000 produced for 1958 alone. The convertible version, then as now, was a valued variant and featured a 37-bhp, 948-cc engine and a top speed of 72 mph, making it quicker than the Volkswagen Beetle.

Though common in Britain and very popular at collector car events there, they are far less common in North America. As with most cars, the convertible version, like the one offered here, is the most collectible and most desirable of all the Minor 1000s.

This Morris Minor was restored eight years ago by the consignor and his father. They found the car about 12 years ago in Central Pennsylvania where it had been stored unused for over three decades. It was disassembled to the bare frame, sandblasted, and repainted in its original shade of Primrose Yellow. The transmission was completely rebuilt and the front brakes were upgraded to discs for reliable stopping power. Once complete, the car received a thorough sorting as well as a new top courtesy of the well-known restoration shop Ragtops & Roadsters of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. The beautiful tan interior was also redone and the delightful Minor continues to present beautifully throughout.

A crowd favorite, this unique car has won numerous awards at local car shows and draws plenty of attention wherever it goes. Perhaps more importantly, it is a fine and reliable performer with its four-speed manual transmission and upgraded brakes. Included with the sale is a period-correct picnic basket perfect for making the most out of any Sunday afternoon.
