5,400 MILES FROM NEW

290 hp, 302 cu. in. V-8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, heavy duty front springs and performance shocks with rear leaf springs, staggered shock absorbers and rear stabilizer bar, and power front disc and rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 108 in.

They year 1970 would be the Boss Mustang’s second year as part of FoMoCo’s lineup. Built to compete with Chevrolet’s Camaro Z/28 and the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am racing series, the Boss 302 was Dearborn’s performance machine, proving that less is more. The Boss 302 included a modified 302 CID V-8 that produced 290 horsepower, in addition to a handling suspension, F60x15 tires, and quicker steering.

According to contemporary road tests in Car & Driver, the Boss 302 completed the quarter-mile in 14.9 seconds at 93.4 mph. In Trans-Am tune, the Boss 302 would win the Manufacturer’s Championship for Ford in 1970, and in production guise, it received new exterior stripes and “Grabber” colors, like this example, which is painted Grabber Blue.

Engines benefited from smaller valves to improve drivability, while horsepower remained the same at 290.

Documentation provided with this original 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Fastback, including a copy of the original build sheet, indicates that it was delivered new to B & R Ford Sales in West Virginia. As a Boss 302, its standard equipment included “Hi-Back” vinyl bucket seats, a four-speed transmission, power front disc brakes, color keyed carpeting and racing mirrors, a space saver spare tire, quick ratio steering, competition suspension, a functional front spoiler, and special instruments and gauges. At extra charge, the car was also equipped with power steering, raised white letter belted tires, and an AM radio. It now also wears Magnum 500 chrome wheels. Grabber Blue from new, this Boss is quite clean throughout, including under the hood, which is correct down to the smog equipment. The underside, interior, and trunk are also neat, clean, and with nice presentation. It is the perfect Ford for the no-nonsense muscle car buyer, offered here with only 5,400 original miles showing on the odometer.
