Over time, experience and worldwide demand dictated many changes in the sublimely beautiful Jaguar E-Type. This culminated in 1968 with the introduction of the Series II, a substantial redesign that foreshadowed the final Series III V-12 that eventually debuted for 1971. Federal regulations in the USA, Jaguar’s most important export market, drove some of the Series II changes. This included revised lighting and the shift to a pair of carburetors in place of the earlier triple-carb arrangement. The well-proven 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder was little changed, although a higher-capacity water pump helped the E-Type adapt better to warmer climates. Braking was improved as well, with larger Girling disc brakes utilizing three-piston calipers at the front and two-piston units at the rear. Inside, more comfortable reclining seats with adjustable headrests were now standard. The Series II revisions marked the maturation of the landmark E-Type and made a great car even better.

This particular E-Type has registered only 53,000 miles and a limited number of owners from new. It has been well maintained, including a recent service by Classic Showcase. The work included a complete repaint, color sand and buffing in its original color of Willow Green. The interior, including the leather seats, new leather console, new door panels, new carpet and the headliner was reupholstered in the lovely factory color of Biscuit. Classic Showcase also rebuilt the carburetors, performed a major tune-up and changed all fluids. The engine and transmission were removed, disassembled and resealed, as were the heads and front and rear seals. The clutch system was replaced, and the flywheel was resurfaced. The front suspension was removed, disassembled and rebuilt with new bushings and ball joints. Furthermore, new wheel bearings, rear half-shaft U Joints and a new alternator were installed. New rubber, seals and hardware were also installed as needed. Finally, the brightwork was re-plated, and the car was re-fitted with its chrome wire wheels. An honest, low mileage E-Type Series II, this is not only a wonderful driver’s car but one with a fantastic original color combination that is at once both elegant and eye-catching.
