Donald Healey astutely recognized a sizeable market for a fast, nimble and stylish open two-seater, particularly in America, and the 100/4 was the inspired result. Today, the up-rated 100M “Le Mans” remains the finest and most desirable early variant, offering superior performance and such distinctive, race-bred external features as a louvered bonnet with a leather retaining strap, silver-painted wire wheels and a rakish cut-down windscreen.

Mechanical upgrades included 8:1 compression, a high-lift cam, upgraded carburetors, a low-restriction intake manifold and a modified distributor, which translated to an additional 20 hp and 154 pounds-feet of torque. Ultimately, while only 640 100M “Le Mans” cars were built by the factory itself, many more were upgraded locally by dealers as an option for their more performance-minded clients.

This genuine, factory-built Le Mans model is authenticated by the 100M Registry and its Gold Certification by the Austin-Healey Concours Registry. Built on September 9, 1955, it is a matching numbers, original left-hand drive US-delivery example that received a body-off restoration that was performed to very high standards of correctness and quality over a two-year period by noted restorer Martin Hveem of Red Bluff, California. Prior to restoration, the car was remarkably complete and retained all of the original, factory-installed components that formed the 100M Le Mans package. During the exacting process, Mr. Hveem utilized original fasteners for heightened authenticity, and both the Healey’s engine and gearbox were completely rebuilt in-house as well.

With only test mileage since completion, this show-quality 100M has been trailered to shows and events and is highly attractive in its original livery of Olde English White with a blue interior and convertible top. The seats are smartly piped in white to match the exterior. Presented in as-new condition, the Healey starts and runs well and features all the proper 'M' engine upgrades and exterior features characteristic of the 100M. Complete with its corresponding British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, this vehicle is undoubtedly one of the best examples of the rare Austin-Healey 100M “Le Mans” we have ever offered.
