When Carroll Shelby first shoehorned a Ford V8 under the hood of an otherwise modest, albeit shapely, AC Ace, he set the sports car world on fire. Decades on, numerous replicas of the Cobra's iconic shape have been created, but most have unfortunately given the kit car world a bad name.
Working directly with Shelby Automotive, Kirkham Motorsports is trusted by the legendary builder to supply the company with bodies for its CSX Shelby Cobra continuation cars. Yet some bodies are subtly enhanced to become the basis for a unique and highly sophisticated take on the Cobra theme. Built to extraordinarily high tolerances, the Kirkham vehicles reflect such an attention to detail that Carroll Shelby himself owns an example and Peter Brock says that Kirkham does “things right.”
Kirkham's KMS 427 S/C starts with a hand-built filed or polished finish aluminum body riveted to a steel sub-frame and then slides a big block Shelby Signature aluminum V8 under the hood. Breathing through a fiberglass hood scoop, the big V8 then receives a polished Vortech V-2 supercharger with a customized Shelby carburetor enclosure.
Boasting a high-performance Demon down leg carburetor, a programmable MSD ignition, a Pro Billet Distributor, custom grind solid roller cam and lifters and polished and flow-tested heads, the engine cranks out more than 600 hp and 600 lb-ft. of torque at 5,500 rpm. With its low weight and stiff springs, the KMS 427 S/C is a force to be reckoned with on a track. More than just a high performance machine, the hand-crafted sports car is built to an exceedingly high standard evident in just one glance under its hood.
The 2004 KMS 427 S/C is being offered here by its original owner. With less than 500 miles from new, the sports car is in as-new condition throughout. It benefits from a number of factory upgrades, including the optional polished aluminum body, subtle matte-finish brakes, and a five-speed Tremec 600 manual transmission. One of the priciest single upgrades on this car is the stainless steel chassis, which this car’s owner specifically requested from new. A street legal high performance machine, the KMS 427 S/C is ready to be enjoyed by any discerning high performance enthusiast with an appreciation for fanatical attention to detail and engineering.
