Lot 127

2002 Lincoln Continental Concept

Sold for $56,100

414 bhp, 6.0-liter SOHC V12 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, multi-link independent front and rear suspension, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Wheelbase: 136.6"

- 414 bhp V12 engine

- Power-operated pillarless doors

- Innovative power luggage storage

- Cutting-edge lighting technology

Conceived as a powerful but understated executive car, the Lincoln Continental concept was designed to maximize both interior space and ease of entry and exit. Center-opening power-operated doors operate independently, the pillarless aperture on each side stretching nearly six feet with both doors open. This is made possible by articulating hinges that open to 90 degrees and a ring frame that adds structural rigidity along the A-pillar, rear roof pillar, sill and roof rails. Operation can be triggered remotely or by simply touching the flush aluminum door “handle” pads.

The car uses indirect fiber optic lighting in each door panel and in the headliner. Headlamps also utilize fiber optic technology, using a single light generator ducted by fiber to each of the four round headlamps. This requires less power than conventional halogen bulbs but produces two-and-a-half times the illumination. The instrument panel makes use of Organic Light Emitting Diode technology, which uses a light-emitting polymer film. System response is very fast, so displays can be changed quickly. The system offers excellent visibility in direct sunlight, a wide viewing angle and low power consumption.

A hydraulically-powered deck lid opens on a parallelogram linkage that keeps it horizontal at all times, providing easy access to three sliding storage drawers fitted into the luggage compartment. A large luggage tray slides out by remote control to accept fitted Zero Halliburton luggage and golf club cases.

Powered by a 414-bhp, 6.0-liter V12 engine that generates 413 lb-ft of torque, the car is supremely comfortable, a glimpse of what the future holds in store for this market segment.

This vehicle does not run; all electronics are inoperable. It is not DOT or EPA certified, cannot be registered for highway use in the United States, and is offered on bill of sale only.
