Edsel Ford may have been losing his struggle with Harry Bennett for the effective control of the Ford Motor Company in 1937, but his stylistic influence was never more apparent than in the increasingly attractive and modern styling of the company’s products for 1937. In fact, many of the styling cues introduced on the landmark 1936 Lincoln-Zephyr now appeared on the regular Ford lineup, providing an aerodynamic and modern look.
Long a collector favorite, the dashing Ford Deluxe Roadster was originally priced from $696, with only 1,250 examples produced for 1937. Today, just 12 surviving examples of this very desirable model are listed in the Early Ford V8 Club registry.
This award-winning 1937 Ford Deluxe Roadster continues to benefit from an excellent, body-off-frame restoration by noted restorer Don Critesor of Portland, Oregon. Best known for his work on such limited-production, high-end marques of the Classic Era including Duesenberg, he is also quite well known for his particular fondness for the stylish 1937 Ford Roadster. In addition to its timeless style, the roadster is highly equipped with a clock, a Deluxe hood ornament, a locking glove box, rear fender skirts, a radio, rumble seat, running-board moldings, “spider” hubcaps and wind wings.
This consistent and multiple Early Ford V8 Club Best of Show award winner has more recently been freshened as required and benefits from climate-controlled storage and maintenance within a respected early Ford V8 collection. Always shown at high-profile classic car events and shows, this is undoubtedly one of the best examples in existence.
