2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
- Chassis no. ZHWBU37SX8LA02879
Sold for $253,000
By introducing the LP640 in 2006, Lamborghini took what was already an unbelievably fast sports car, the Murciélago, and catapulted it into uncharted supercar territory. Displacement was increased to 6.5 liters and horsepower shot to 631 – more than a Mercedes-Benz SLR, a Carrera GT and even a Pagani Zonda. The design was tweaked and refined, all the while adhering to the madness and stop-in-your-tracks sex appeal that enthusiasts have come to expect from Lamborghini. From launch control to rearview cameras, the technical specifications are simply mind-blowing. Suffice it to say that Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson hit 207 mph on the show’s test track without breaking a sweat. In his words: “My God it’s fast – properly, savagely fast!”
Yet for all its performance, the Murciélago has, since its introduction, been recognized as a drastic step forward in livability, thanks of course to Audi. Where the Diablos and Countaches of years past were frightfully impractical, yet beloved for all their rough edges, the Murciélago has smoothed over these imperfections masterfully, all the while retaining that unmistakable take-no-prisoners attitude. It is, after all, named for a legendary, unconquerable 19th century fighting bull that was subsequently owned by Don Antonio Miura.
The Murcielago on offer is literally a new car as it has only has delivery mileage, comes with its original factory warranty and awaits its first owner. It is finished in Balloon White with a two-tone Nero Perseus (black) and Bianco Polar (white) interior. The dual-color interior is in fact an option on this car, as is the perforated leather upholstery and steering wheel. They complement the exterior superbly, with sporting yellow stitching on the seats. Other options include black luggage, a transparent engine bonnet, branding package, carbon package, navigation system, iPod interface and Bluetooth. The V12 engine is mated to Lamborghini’s E-Gear select-shift transmission, whereby upshifts and downshifts are handled via paddles and without a clutch pedal. Another particularly notable option is the Hermera wheel package, which contrast nicely with the yellow brake calipers.
Perhaps Clarkson said it best – “The result is spectacular.”
