Lot 243

1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 Roadster

  • Chassis no. 194677S110556

Sold for $198,000

435 bhp, 427 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, independent rear suspension with transverse leaf spring, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 98.0 in.

By 1967, the big block Corvette continued its reign as the king of the road. Brutally fast, with nimble handling and stopping power to match from its four-wheel disc brakes, the Corvette truly earned the title “America’s Sports Car.” Yes, it was expensive, but the Corvette was the car for buyers who wanted speed, and for the all-out performance addict, there was the thundering Mark IV 427-cubic inch V-8, in several levels of tune.

In his book Corvettes 1953–1988: A Collector’s Guide, Richard Langworth wrote, “The 1967 Stingray is arguably one of the best Corvettes ever built. All the styling clichés had been eliminated…four-wheel disc brakes allowed it to stop as well as go.” Randy Leffingwell also wrote in his book, Corvette – America’s Sports Car, that in 1967, the Corvette “was the best Stingray yet…and all the appearance bells and whistles, trim, and shimmer was removed from the car, making it the purest form that the Stingray body ever achieved. Coupled with the possibility of astounding performance from a $437.10 optional 435-horsepower engine, with standard four-wheel disc brakes and new, wider six-inch wheels, it was the best of the best.”

A total of 22,940 Corvettes were produced in 1967, of which 14,436 were convertibles. Of those, 3,754 were equipped with the top RPO L71 427/435 “Tri-Power” engine with three Holley two-barrel carbs, which added $437 to the Corvette’s base price.

This fully restored Marina Blue big block 427 Corvette is an outstanding example that is complete with a host of documentation authenticating its original delivery configuration as a 427/435 big block car. It is complete with its Protect-O-Plate, window sticker, a recent appraisal, and research documentation from a certified NCRS judge with over 35 years of experience, all of which further add to this particular example’s desirability. Options included on this car are power windows, steering, and brakes, red line tires, a four-speed manual transmission, a side exhaust, leather interior, bolt on wheels, and an AM/FM radio.

The recipient of a complete and total restoration, this Corvette remains in exceptional overall condition throughout and shows virtually no wear on the correctly restored underbody, engine and bay, leather interior, brightwork, and Marina Blue and black paintwork, and as such, we thoroughly encourage close examination.
