This striking, two-owner 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was purchased new by the original owner from Parkland Chevrolet of Asheville, North Carolina, and it has remained in the same area ever since. In 2006, the estate of the original owner sold the Corvette to the current owner, who commissioned a high quality, body-off restoration to NCCA show-quality standards that was completed over the next two years.
Finished in Red with Beige side coves, the Corvette was fitted with a new Tan convertible top and a complete interior from Al Knoch, with new components including the carpeting, dash pad, door panels, seats and seat rails. With a laser-straight body and a solid frame, the Corvette is powered by its original, matching-numbers 283/245 “dual quad” V-8, which was completely rebuilt by Barnes and Reese Racing Engines in October 2006. A Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission, with proper 1957 date codes, was rebuilt and installed. The rebuilt original three-speed manual transmission accompanies the sale of the car as well.
Desirable period features include such items as heater and radio delete, emergency brake warning light, courtesy lights, seat belts, hubcaps, off-road exhaust and 6.70 X 15 wide whitewall tires. Other factory-correct components include the spare tire, jack, jack tools, trunk mat and liner, rebound straps, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, generator and hood pop-ups. A high-quality example from the 1957 model year, representing what many enthusiasts consider the definitive turning point for “America’s Sports Car,” this show-quality Corvette is sure to please.
