Introduced in October 1950, Morgan’s Plus Four was built through 1968. The handsome and upscale Drophead Coupe effectively broadened Morgan’s appeal and competed effectively against such marques as Alvis, Jaguar and Riley, while supplying its owners with elegant and comfortable cruising at 80-plus mph and peerless road manners.
This excellent example from 1964 was totally restored by a West Coast specialist during 2004 and is offered by its second owner, who is a discerning and knowledgeable marque enthusiast. During the exacting process, the car was completely dismantled and all wooden body framing replaced, the engine was upgraded, and all electrics were refurbished. The wings feature a deep two-stage Mason’s Black finish, and the body is cloaked in specially formulated Rolls-Royce Brewster Green by Glasurit. Door, bonnet and wing fit are simply remarkable, and superb workmanship is clearly in evidence throughout.
Mickey Dupuis restored all brightwork, and the exterior has a very fine pinstripe by M. Limata, the famed automotive artist. All cockpit leather was replaced with hand-dyed Bridge of Weir hides, lumbar squabs were custom-made for added comfort, matching Wilton carpeting was installed, and Madera Concepts refinished all wooden interior trim to its original piano-gloss finish.
A set of new and correct triple-lace 72-spoke wire wheels replaced the worn originals, a period “Raydot” spotlight was mounted by the driver’s door, and the original Blumels Brooklands steering wheel was refinished. Seven-stage adjustable shock absorbers were fitted, and of course, the car includes the rare chrome-framed sliding-glass side windows, as well as the tool roll, original scissor jack and owner’s manual. An award-winner at all shows entered since restoration and ready to show and tour, this handsome 1964 Plus Four is also complete with a Chassis Register certificate signed by none other than Peter Morgan.
AddendumPlease note this 1964 Morgan is incorrectly referred to in the catalog as a 1963. This vehicle is offered with original tool wrap, original scissor jack, and original chrome sliding glass windows.
