The 244th example produced of 355 total 250 GT Coupés built, chassis number 1617 GT was produced by Ferrari in the fall of 1959 and destined for France, where it was delivered to the official Ferrari dealer, Franco-Britannic Automobiles of Levallois-Perret. It was subsequently sold new to an individual in France before being exported to the United States in 1960.

While the car’s early history in the United States is not known, it was sold around 1970 to a Mr Benson, residing in Minnesota. The car was offered by him for sale in the May 1976 issue of Autoweek magazine and was stated as having been in storage for the last six years. It would remain in Minnesota and was eventually sold to Jerry Wenger of Owatonna, who restored the car in red over tan. By 1998, the car had made its way to California and was noted as still being finished in red with a tan interior, showing just 44 kilometres on its odometer, supposedly the number accumulated following its restoration.

Sometime thereafter, the car returned to Europe and was imported to Belgium and registered there for road use in 2004. The car was sold to France in 2007 and has remained there ever since. Driven and enjoyed there in a handful of Ferrari Club France events, the car has recently been restored to its original colour combination of Grigio Argento (MM 16003) over Pelle Rossa (3171).

La 244esima 250 GT Coupé costruita, su un totale di 355 vetture, numero di telaio 1617 GT, è stata prodotta dalla Ferrari nell'autunno del 1959 e destinata alla Francia, dove è stato consegnata al concessionario ufficiale Ferrari, Franco-Britannic Automobiles di Levallois-Perret. Ha quindi avuto un primo proprietario francese prima di essere esportata negli Stati Uniti nel 1960.

La prima parte della storia della vettura dopo il suo arrivo in America non è conosciuta, sappiamo solo che intorno il 1970 e stata venduta a tal Signor Benson, residente nel Minnesota. E’ lui che l’inserziona nel numero di Maggio 1976, della rivista Autoweek, affermando che la macchina è stata lasciata ferma, in un deposito, per gli ultimi 6 anni. Venduta, la 250 GT rimane in Minnesota, acquistata da Jerry Wenger di Owatonna, che la restaura, verniciandola in rosso con interni color marrone medio. Nel 1998 è arrivata in California, dove viene osservato che, è ancora dipinta di rosso con gli interni marrone e che lo strumento indica 44 chilometri, molto probabilmente i soli percorsi dalla macchina una volta finito il restauro.

Qualche tempo dopo la 250 Gt Coupé torna in Europa, importata in Belgio targata per uso stradale nel 2004. La vettura viene venduta in Francia nel 2007, dove ancora oggi rimane, guidata e piacevolmente usata in qualche raduno organizzato dal Ferrari Club di Francia e dove è stata recentemente riportata alla sua combinazione cromatica originale di Grigio Argento (MM 16003) su Pelle Rossa (3171).

Una Ferrari raffinata in tutti i sensi, perchè una 250 GT Coupé con una carrozzeria Pinin Farina ben restaurata, non sarà mai volgare.
