Lot 108

1961 Jaguar XK150 Roadster

Sold for $77,000

220 bhp, 3,781 cc inline six-cylinder engine with dual SU carburetors, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 102"

- One of only 42 Roadsters equipped with the dual-carbureted 3.8L engine
- A rare, desirable, late-production example
- Restored in the late 1990s and driven sparingly since

The final development of the successful XK range, the XK150 was introduced in 1957 and was updated in its design with a one-piece curved windshield and a revised and straighter beltline that did not dip down at the rear, as with the 120 and 140. The XK150 was available in either standard or Special Equipment outfitting, and by late 1959, the 3.4- and 3.8-liter engines could be ordered either with twin SU HD8 carburetors or as triple-carbureted “S” versions. As performance increased, so too did the demands of braking technology, and accordingly, the XK150 became the first production car introduced with power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Combined with its luxurious outfitting, it was truly a glorious swan song for the sporty postwar Jaguar sports car and remained as capable, attractive and desirable as ever.

The example presented here is a rare and desirable late production left-hand drive example that was exported to the United States near the end of production as the venerable E-Type was introduced later in the same year. Restored in the late 1990s, the car has been properly maintained and serviced and is reportedly in excellent running and driving condition. Driven sparingly since the restoration, the car comes complete with driving lights, chrome wire wheels and a spare and knock-off hammer. From the red leather upholstery to the matching original dash and carpeting, the interior is very presentable and nicely maintained, and it appears to be period correct throughout.

One of just 42 XK150 Roadsters fitted with the dual-carbureted 3.8-liter engine, this example certainly warrants closer inspection from the seasoned collector or novice in search of the performance and incomparable style that only such a Jaguar offers.
