A luxurious, wood-trimmed alternative to conventional family cars wrapped in a trim, sensuous package, Jaguar’s Mk II is widely regarded as the world’s first sports sedan. For 1960, performance was heightened with the optional new 3.8-liter engine, in addition to comprehensive performance features including a tachometer, a limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes and a four-speed gearbox with overdrive.

With 220 hp, the Mk II 3.8 accelerated from rest to 60 mph in just 8.5 seconds en route to a top speed of 125 mph. It was equally impressive in long-distance racing and, in 1961, broke four world records in the 3 – 5 liter class, averaging 106.58 mph over 10,000 miles. The Mk II also dominated saloon car racing and even the Tour de France, which it won from 1960 to 1963. It was no wonder, then, that the Mk II was the preferred getaway car for London’s gangsters, matched by the police in their own stripped 3.8s during the “Swinging ’60s.”

The Mk II 3.8 offered here received a cost-no-object, multiple show-winning restoration by Harbor Auto Restoration of Rockledge, Florida. A modern five-speed T5 gearbox is the sole exception to its correct, original mechanical specification, which improves drivability immensely. Appearance features include a lustrous black finish, a contrasting biscuit leather interior, abundant polished walnut veneer and Wilton wool carpeting. An attractive Derrington wood-rimmed wheel, chrome wire wheels and whitewall radials complete the picture.

On the show field, the Mk II earned 99.960 points and Best in Class at the JCNA South Florida competition in 2002, followed by the AACA’s Grand National Senior Award. More recently, it received Best in Class at the Palm Beach International Concours in 2006. As offered, the Mk II is complete with a tool kit, a spare tire and wheel, a jack, and a reproduction owner’s handbook.
