Lot 152

1958 Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupe

Sold for $68,750

220 bhp, 3,781 cc dual overhead camshafts inline six-cylinder, dual S.U. carburetors, four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 102"

- One of only 264 Drophead Coupes with overdrive
- Only 4,100 miles since professional restoration in 2001

First introduced in the fall of 1957, Jaguar’s XK150 represented the final and most refined evolution of the brilliant, original XK120 concept. Mechanical refinements included the addition of servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a first for Jaguar, which provided stopping power in keeping with the model’s considerable performance.

Additional refinements included a larger radiator opening for better cooling (a shortcoming of the earlier XK120 and 140), a revised cylinder head and somewhat larger interior accommodations. The XK150 was originally introduced in two body styles, fixed head and drophead coupes (the roadster was not added until almost a year after production began). However, all body styles combined spirited performance with luxurious appointments such as leather trim in a package that is as appealing today as when it was new, over 50 years ago.

The beautiful 3.8 liter XK150 Drophead Coupe we have the pleasure of offering here is a stunning car that benefited from a complete, no-expense-spared mechanical and cosmetic restoration in 2001. The concours-winning restoration was executed by marque specialist Tourist Trophy Garage of Louisiana for its former New Orleans-based owner. Receipts in excess of $20,000 highlight the extent of the engine rebuild, while other work included a new gas tank, clutch, wiring harness, master cylinder, springs, wipers/motors, fuel pump and a host of other mechanical items.

Cosmetically, the Jaguar also received an impressive amount of attention, including a new red leather interior, black mohair top and silver painted wire wheels. It comes complete with a jack and spare. Following the restoration, the Jaguar was shown for the first time at the New Orleans British Car Day where it was awarded a Best in Class award and subsequently declared Best in Show. We understand the car has been driven only sparingly, showing little more than 4,100 miles on the odometer since the restoration’s completion in 2001. It has been meticulously maintained and, as such, we encourage close examination.
