The inspired product of a chance meeting between Nash’s George Mason and Donald Healey in 1949, the Nash-Healey of 1951-1954 combined sleek bodywork, a race-proven Healey chassis and a tuned Nash OHV six. US sales followed the car’s 1951 American debut in Chicago.

The Nash-Healey raced very successfully, with the first chassis finishing ninth in the Mille Miglia and fourth overall at Le Mans in 1950. Its best Le Mans showing was in 1952, where a Nash-Healey scored third overall, first in class. For 1952, Pinin Farina endowed the Nash-Healey with a curvaceous new steel body, and the engine grew to 253 cubic inches and 140 hp. Capable of topping 100 mph with standard overdrive, the car gained praise for its excellent ride and handling. The updated Nash-Healey was even driven by William Holden in the 1954 movie Sabrina and by Clark Kent in TV’s The Adventures of Superman.

An important car for Nash and Pinin Farina, the Nash-Healey was one of the first cooperative ventures between Italy’s Pinin Farina and a US manufacturer, as well as a very successful early effort to bring leading-edge sports car technology from England to the United States, using Donald Healey’s race-proven chassis.

As one of just 162 examples built for the 1953 model year out of 506 Nash-Healeys produced in total, this very nicely restored example was reportedly purchased new by professional golfing legend Sam Snead and retained by him until 1958. As presented today, red and cream two-tone leather upholstery, Wilton wool carpeting and a black canvas top complement the eye-catching red exterior finish. Other great features include a fully detailed engine bay and restored brightwork, plus the original gauges and radio.

Please note this car’s steering wheel was damaged and will be repaired by RM.
